A project on suicide prevention among young people has been launched

Today, a press conference dedicated to the launch of the project "Development and implementation of a set of measures for the prevention of suicide among young people"was held in an online format.

The event was attended by Chairman of the Committee for Youth and Family Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Shahmardan Baymanov, Head of the Center for Support of Civil Initiatives Lima Diaz, President of the Institute of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities of Kazakhstan Margarita Uskembayeva, project coordinator Aigul Beimisheva and others.

During the press conference, the organizers stressed that the project aims to increase the effectiveness of preventive work to prevent suicidal actions among young people, as well as to promote the preservation and strengthening of their mental health.

Sh. Baymanov noted: "It is important to offer the young person other scenarios of coping with the desire to commit suicide. For example, to engage in creativity, sports, volunteering."
Within the framework of the project, it is planned to develop an "Index of socio-psychological well-being of young people" with an analysis of the entry of a teenager into a "risk group" and test it, train parents and guardians to prevent suicide among young people, as well as train 170 regional-level trainers to further disseminate the knowledge gained at the local level.

Aigul Beymisheva noted that the long-term impact of the social project is to update the problem of studying suicidal behavior of young people from a socio-psycho-medical point of view, as well as to change the attitude of the Kazakh society to suicides and their relatives.

The project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan by the Public Foundation "Institute of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities of Kazakhstan" together with the Center for Support of Civil Initiatives.
