In this article, you will learn step-by-step actions and basic rules of behavior in case of a traffic accident.

A traffic accident is an event that occurred during the movement of a vehicle along the road and with its participation, which caused harm to health, death of a person, damage to vehicles, structures, goods or other material damage.

Types of accidents:
• Collision

• Hitting a stationary vehicle

• Hitting horse-drawn vehicles

• Hitting on animals

• Passenger drop

• Other incidents

According to the Traffic Rules approved by Government Decree No. 1196 of November 13, 2014 (hereinafter referred to as traffic regulations), in case of a traffic accident, the driver involved in it is obliged to:

immediately stop (do not move) the vehicle, turn on the emergency light alarm and put up an emergency stop sign (flashing red light) in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 2 of Section 7 of the traffic regulations, do not move objects related to the incident;
take possible measures to provide pre-medical medical care to the victims, call an ambulance, and in emergency cases send the victims on a passing train, and if this is not possible, deliver them to the nearest medical institution in your vehicle, provide your name, state registration number plate of the vehicle (with presentation of an identity document or driver's license and the registration document for the vehicle) and return to the scene of the accident;
immediately report the incident to the nearest internal affairs body, write down the names and addresses of eyewitnesses and wait for the arrival of law enforcement officers, except in cases provided for in paragraph 8 of section 1 of the traffic regulations;
clear the roadway if the movement of other vehicles is impossible;
if it is necessary to clear the carriageway, pre-fix the position of the vehicle, tracks and objects related to the incident in the presence of witnesses, take all possible measures to preserve them and ensure a detour of the scene.
In the case of a traffic accident, if there are no victims, with the mutual consent of the drivers in assessing the circumstances of the incident, having previously drawn up a diagram of the incident and signed it, they arrive at the nearest department of the internal affairs bodies to register the incident.

In other words, in case of an accident, you need to:
make sure that there are no casualties, if there are, then call an ambulance;
turn on the "emergency alarm" and set the emergency stop sign;
if there were witnesses to the incident, their contact details should be recorded. This can be useful in special cases;
to call administrative police officers (102 – if there are no victims / 112 – if there are (calls are free)) and insurance agents (tel.: view insurance).
Upon arrival, the traffic patrol police officers must draw up all the case materials:
draw up an accident diagram
, an accident scene inspection protocol,
an administrative protocol,
select explanations,
send drivers for a medical examination.
Traffic police officers also check all your documents, draw a diagram and ask you to tow vehicles in some cases when a vehicle impedes the movement of other cars at the scene of an accident.

Next, an employee of the highway patrol police gives you an explanatory form addressed to the head of the local police department.

You fill out a form, it is necessary to specify the approximate time of the accident, the intersection of streets (opposite which), the state number of the car, directions of movement and a detailed description of the incident, as well as the number of the OGPO policy.
