The opening ceremony of the 4th Winter Youth Olympics took place in Gangwon.

The opening ceremony of the IV Winter Youth Olympics was held in the Gangwon province of South Korea, Kazinform reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event took place at the Yongpon Dome Sports Palace, which can accommodate 8 thousand people. By the way, this arena hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1999 Asian Winter Games.
The participants were greeted by South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol and IOC head Thomas Bach.

The delegation of Kazakhstan entered the arena as the 57th out of 78 participating countries. The country's flag was carried by speed skater Kristina Shumekova and short track speed skater Erasyl Shyngyskhan.
41 domestic athletes will compete at the Youth Olympics, defending the country’s honor in nine disciplines of five sports.

A total of 1,802 athletes from 78 countries will take part in the competition.

The first starts for our compatriots will take place tomorrow, January 20, in biathlon, ski jumping, short track speed skating, and 3x3 hockey.
