Two 19-year-old girls received 10 years in prison for drug distribution in the Kostanay region. The trial took place at the Baitursynov University in the presence of 300 students of the educational institution, NUR.KZ reports with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As noted on the department’s information media portal, two girls were detained by employees of the department for combating drug crime of the Kostanay region police department on January 11 of this year during operational search activities. Students from one of the colleges in Kostanay hid drugs in the entrances of houses, including in mailboxes. During the search, 50 packages containing a white powdery substance were seized from them. Subsequently, during a search of the rented apartment, 192 grams of mephedrone were discovered and seized, which is a particularly large amount.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out under Article 297, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Illegal production, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation for sales purposes, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs). By a court decision, the defendants were sentenced to 10 years in prison. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
We would like to add that according to Article 297 Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, illegal production, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation for the purpose of sale, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues on an especially large scale is punishable by imprisonment for a term of ten to fifteen years with confiscation of property.
