Today, on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression and Famine, the Minister of Information and Social Development Aida Balaeva met with young historians.

The event was held at the ALZHIR Museum and Memorial Complex on the topic “Historical Consciousness - the Spiritual Basis of Independence”, where the results of research on the history of political repression and famine in Kazakhstan were presented.

The meeting was attended by young historians and scientists, representatives of the project office to support the activities of the State Commission for the complete rehabilitation of victims of political repression, employees of research centers, archives and museums.

Minister of Information and Public Development A. Balayeva: "According to the concept and plan of events for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Independence, the month of May is held with the theme" National Unity, Peace and Accord ", which gives particular importance to 31 May this year as the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political repression and hunger ". She recalled that by the decision of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy N. Nazarbayev, annually, starting from 1997, May 31 in Kazakhstan is celebrated as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression.

The Minister emphasized that today in Kazakhstan there is an opportunity to comprehensively study individual periods of our history and called on the young generation of historians to create academic works in this direction.

The participants of the meeting noted that with the acquisition of Independence there was an opportunity to objectively study history, learn the real facts and rethink them. So, during the event, the deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan E. Beisenbayev, historians M. Kozybaeva, K. Battalov, M. Zhylgeldinov, H. Maslov and others made speeches.

During the discussion of the topic of the meeting, Aida Balaeva noted: "The study of the tragic history of the Kazakh people of the 20-30s, the disclosure of the truth about the crimes of the Bolsheviks should not be considered as an action directed against any other people. But history should teach and warn all peoples against repeating the tragic mistakes of the past. Especially we must teach the younger generation the truth of our history, no matter how bitter it may be. Therefore, on behalf of the President, a state commission for the complete rehabilitation of victims of political repression was created. I am sure that now, having studied historical documents, a reliable study will be carried out based on factual data ".
